Supreme Court Visit

Hey everybody! Tricia is here to blog again (Ok., more like copy and paste from my own blog.) Just wanna share the picts of the Supreme Court visit since so many of you cannot make it. Thought it would be nice if everybody can know what we did there. Hahax...

Today, there was a Supreme Court visit and suppose to whole class 17 ppl got go but in the end only left 7 of us. The other courses pangseh oso. Went down to Supreme Court with Joyce, Dilyse, Lam, Amanda, Zhang Kai and JiaJun... Met Dennis Sim (the tutor in charged) and he left us alone to follow the tour cos he got meeting at 5pm.

The new Supreme Court damn new la. And cos cameras not allowed, i only took a pict of the toilet... So white right...


And after looking through those info board which are quite cool, we went on to tour the old Supreme Court.

And there was this sign which says "Some of the most notorious criminals came through this door". The van on it is called the "Black Maria" which transport criminals from prisons all over Singapore to the court for the hearing...


And he tour guide bang on the door and it opened! Shocked us.


Looking inside... The tour guide of that place awaits us...


This is where the "Black Maria" will park...


That is the guide who is acting as a prison guard.
(When police still wear shorts...)


The cells which holds criminals waiting for their hearings and trials.


Looking in... You see only a bench and a squat toilet...


That the poor little toilet at the corner...


Toilet flush is outside the cell.
Cos they dowan the prisoners to use the mechanics to escape or sth...


And the label the cells with the names.
This one was left behind.
Teo Chee Seng was sentenced to 4 years of jail because he fed his step-daughter who was an infant medical oil when she did not stop crying and she died. Thus he had committed homicide. The prosecutor found this to be too light a sentence and appealed to the courts for a heavier one. And he is now serving 7 years of jail.


We left the place via the route criminals take when they have to go up to the courts.

And ta-da. You reach the Court of appeal.
Our next guide is a acting as a lawyer...


The green part is where the lawyers sit.


And the accused will sit in that glass box chained to sth...

And if you ever kenna trialed, your parents and friends and KPO people will sit there...


Dilyse and ZhangKai are on trial?


And they actually look happy about it?!


YingWai is now about to testify against ZhangKai for the horrible crime he did.
(Amanda and I tried to act as the lawyers...)


*Change of roles* Lam and I are now sobbing for our poor friend ZhangKai who is convicted... Boo Hoo Hoo~ (And Joyce is happy about it?)


The guide commented that the group of us seem to be having so much fun role-playing... Hahax... DTRM02 spirit!

And the tour continues to the corridors of the Supreme Court...


Police Post? Its actually a library and it is dome shaped inside.
Sadly, we cant go in...

And now we go onto the Chief Justice's chambers...

Something old found on the table. Wonder how much if i sell it... Hmmm...

The next guide acts as the orderly who works for the chief justice.

Heard that the furnitures in the room are specially designed.

That is the CJ's table. So big right...

And pictures all around the room...

Before air-con was invented, these holes here helps to ventilate the place...

And CJ have special priveledges. A personal lift that travels down to his garage (which is only 1 storey below his office)
And i wonder why anybody complains when i want to take the lift when its 4 storeys up from where i am? Unfair treatment! I wanna complain!

(PS. Isn't the CJ pampered? he has his own personal lift, toilet and the court he is sitting in is just separated from his chambers but a door!)

The next guide is the architect to the place...

Familiar? Its the statue on at the top of the supreme court.
The scales is a symbol of fair treatment and the sword is power of law. The woman kneeing next to Justice is showing a plea for help. The person to the right of the Justice, symbolizes the people who write the law and the people who carry it out [aka Minister] To the extreme left, of the triangle, the man is being bitten by a 2 headed snake, showing what will happen if the sentence is not just. To the extreme right, the family is happy and has good harvest and good cattle. Showing how law can help everybody.

Down to the foyer...

Under this foundation stone, there is a time capsule that contains newspapers dated one day before the stone was laid. There are also coins and some inportant artifects buried along with it. The time capsule will be opened in year 3000. Which means, i'll never see it...

Stepping out of the courts. I see the new supreme court! Btw, the UFO like thing on the top is the Court of Appeal. Which is the highest ranked court in Singapore and so being at the top of the building is a symbol for its power...

And on the other side is Pandang and you can also see the Flyer...

Walking away from the courts and back home!

Had great fun today! Thankful for the chance to visit the place before it is converted into a museum. Its quite a waste don't you think? That such a place with such a long history is no longer in use. Oh well. At least its still there...
